April 12, 2023 Newsletter - EP 91: HR's Bastard Step Child (aka. L&D)

Spring has sprung and longer, brighter, days are ahead. At least as far as the weather is concerned. Every year we celebrate changes and new beginnings across holidays and calendars the world over, but are we actually learning as we go?

This week we give Learning & Development a second chance to wow us with its potential impact and are reminded of its undeniable, yet often neglected power.

It's been a long, dark, winter in the HR industry - unprecedented times, repeating like Taylor Swift jams for working on three+ years - but this week we are hopeful.

New lessons, new opportunities, and new episodes abound in 2023, dear readers! Be grateful for sunshine and a sense of humor.

David is our spirit animal... he just gets us.

EP91 - HR'S BASTARD STEP CHILD (aka. L&D)

Learning & Development is often secondary, nay tertiary, to the ‘sexier’ HR functions like Talent and Recruitment, or the more task-oriented ‘must-haves’ like Compensation. Alexa and Tyson are on a mission to fix that little miscarriage of HR justice in this one. Joined by Matt Gjertsen, former Air Force Pilot and pilot trainer turned Chief Learning Officer, they tackle the best practices for designing learning, how to combine subject experts with good educators; common pitfalls of L&D organizations, and exactly how the fall of Rome leads us to modern day L&D. Let’s get educated fam.
